Just a reminder that May 13th is the last day to turn in all work. The school will be open from 8-4 with teachers on campus to answer questions. This will also be the last day students can get into lockers and turn in all books.

Govoner Abbott and other state officials just announced new guidelines for graduation ceremonies. JISD is working on finalizing plans for our graduation. The ceremony will look different and we have many safety requirements to work out. As of this moment graduation is scheduled for May 22nd at the football field. The time, ceremony format, and number of guests allowed will be decided very soon. Once again, please be patient with us as we think it all through. We are still filming graduation this Thursday as a backup. While we have the all clear to host graduation at this time, we want to make sure we are still prepared if that order changes. We are extremely thankful to be be able to plan a graduation for our seniors. To end the year with a little bit of normalcy will warm our hearts.

From Chisholm Craftworx: We're taking submissions from Jonesboro seniors to win a 2-4 t-shirt pillow. You provide your favorite T-shirts you no longer wear or want to preserve as a memory (2-4) and we turn them into a pillow for you! To enter the contest you just have to submit your favorite high school memory, it doesn't have to be a school memory, just one from your high school years. You can place your submission at Chisholmcraftworx@gmail.com please put "contest" in the subject. We will pick ONE winner on May 15th.

From the Hamilton Paper: We are preparing for the Senior Keepsake Edition of the paper. Even though plans are still in the air with graduation, we want to make sure that the seniors have a very special keepsake. Like last year, this will be a tabloid-size insert in our May 21 issue featuring Hamilton, Evant and Jonesboro graduates. Color space is limited so it is best to reserve a spot ASAP.

Pre-K and Kindergarten registration packets will be ready Monday, April 27th. You must pick the packets up from school. For pre-k, once you have a complete packet your name will go on the list. We will put transfer students on a waiting list until June 1st. This will give us time to get all in district students enrolled first. Once that date passes, we will use the names off of our transfer list to fill up the class. We will go in order that we received complete packets. If your child is already in pre-k for the district you do not have to fill out a new packet for kindergarten. Please call the school if you have any questions.

This time of year is generally pretty busy for our FFA Chapter. Yesterday we had three members run for District and Area offices. Due to CoVid 19 the election procedures were VERY different and all done remotely. We would like to co granulated Maddi Brookshire for being elected Bosque River District Officer for the 2020-2021 school year!

JISD Junior Cheer Mascot was posted for two weeks before we let out for spring break for a second tryout. I had one young lady sign up. I am putting this out as a last chance if your child is interested. If nothing has been emailed to me by tomorrow that will be the end.

Today, Texas Governor Greg Abbott amended his Executive Order, calling for all schools in the state of Texas to close for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. This means JISD will remain closed to the public. JISD will continue to provide distance learning to all of our students through May 22, 2020. JISD will also continue to serve breakfast and lunches each weekday through this situation.  Please look for an announcement late next week concerning prom and graduation. We expect to receive information and guidance from Mike Morath, Texas Commissioner of Education, next week regarding graduation ceremonies. Miss you all, Kendra Gustin Principal JISD

CDC now recommends you wear a mask in public where you can’t avoid being near people, like in grocery stores, pharmacies & healthcare settings https://bit.ly/2V8o5Y2. Remember though, your local authorities may have already issued a specific order re: masks. #StayHomeTexas

Ma’am
Parents: To ensure everyone can keep track with assignments during our time learning at home, I wanted to point out a new feature on Parent Portal. You can now see grades that do not have grades inputted in the grade book. You will NOT receive grade alerts for blank grades. This will help you keep up with assignments at home a little better. All you have to do is click show all assignments. The screen shots below are from my phone screen. It will look differently on a computer screen but the language is the same. Please let me know if you need any help.

Will show all assignments.
Will show only assignments WITH grades inputted by teacher.
The virus lives in tiny droplets in the lungs of people w/ COVID-19, even when they don’t show symptoms. We can breathe the same air as anyone within abt. 6 ft. of us. Staying farther apart from people during this time reduces the chance of breathing in the virus. #StayHomeTexas El virus vive en gotas en los pulmones de personas con COVID-19, y a veces no tienen síntomas.
